Dear Families, Guardians, Siblings and Staff,
As I write this letter to you, I am deeply disturbed and incredibly saddened by the senseless act of aggression that caused the tragic death of George Floyd. As a community of believers rooted in faith, we stand in contradiction to injustice, abuse, intolerance and violence.
As people of faith, we believe that all women and men are created equal in the eyes of God. As sisters and brothers traveling on this journey, our eyes must remain opened to the sanctity of life for all of God’s people.
Let us remember in prayer this day the family of George Floyd who suffered a great tragedy and all those men and women who have also died at the hands of racial brutality.
What is happening in America today should challenge all of us. We must not be content within our own lives to not realize the terrible injustice others are enduring. Do we not have a moral responsibility to become more aware that God calls all of us to live in a world which is fair and just to all? What can we actively do to make our country a “home” where all feel it is theirs? All people must be recognized fully as gift givers made in the image and likeness of God. They not only deserve a good life but certainly one worth living.
For the past two and half months, we have sheltered in place during this horrific COVID virus – now we are confronted with another deadly virus – the virus of racism. Let us stand together in powerful prayerful protest denouncing these horrendous actions.
To our dedicated and loving staff, if you are struggling and need support, please reach out to your Administrator. We appreciate your devotion to our residents and we are here to help you.
In the words of Mother Catherine McAuley, “The tender Mercy of God has given us one another.” Let us unite and embrace peace with open hearts. The challenges are before all of us. Let us pray God will direct us to face these many challenges with the courage to act with compassion, with mercy and with justice for all.
In the Spirit of God’s love,
Sister Rosemary
